The surroundings

 

The Apulia territory with slight reliefs is rich in ways, paths and country roads which permit a great variety of tours for every kind of holidays you choose to make by bike.

In few minutes you can reach Martina franca, conversano, Castellana Grotte, Locorotondo, Alberobello, Cisternino and the sea.

Conversano, ancient and beautiful small city, is worth being visited for its Cathedral, its many and ancient churches, the Castle and S. Benedetto convent.

Castellana Grotte is famous all over the world for the magnificence of its caves which spread out for abour 3500 meters, at the end of them there is the White Cave, so called for the whiteness of its calcareous concretions.

The nearest beaches are S. Stefano Lido, Cala Verde, Copa Cabana, a delightful small cove, Barcollando, Sabbiadoro: all of them are sandy beaches and the sea is crystal clear.

Locorotondo, beautiful and lively village which is situated on a rise, is famous for the wonderful panoramic view of Valle d’Itria. The ancient part of Locorotondo is characteristic for the concentric layout of its small streets and for its typical houses with sloping roofs made with calcareous plates. The dome of the Mother Church devoted to St. George is silhouetted against the skyline and dominates the whole town.

Alberobello, characterised by its cone-shaped dwellings “trulli”, is situated on two hill reliefs. On the western peak, there are the “trulli”, protected under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) world heritage law.

Cisternino, situated on a rise and characterised by white houses with inner stairs painted whitewash (an example of spontaneous architecture), is of Messapiche and Roman origins and owned by Italian-Greek monks.
